Event Name:    The politization of migration. Challenges for critical thinking and progressive politics

Event Date:    November 29-30, 2017

The Humboldt Chair at the University of Costa Rica aims to contribute to the academic exchange between scholars from Germany and Costa Rica. As part of this aim, this colloquium wishes to expand the perspectives through which migration is conceptualized in contemporary societies.

Objectives

  • To reflect on the current processes of politization of migration through which right and far right wing parties and movements have become the centerstage of the political analysis of this topic.
  • To discuss emancipatory ways of thinking about migration.
  • To explore further initiatives emerging from this colloquium.

Methodology

The colloquium is organized in four sessions, each of which includes presentations followed by discussion. Each day will be a public activity aimed at expanding the discussion to a broader audience.
